Guidelines

THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND COMMITTEE GUIDELINES FOR APPLICANTS

A. All applicants for financial assistance shall meet certain criteria, including but not limited to the following:

  1. Members or former members of Calvary Baptist Church or applicants whose church of origin, when beginning ministry preparation, is Calvary. Preference will be given to active members.
  2. Evidence of genuine conversion experience and a definite call to vocational Christian service.
  3. Evidence of financial need.
  4. Age shall not be a factor in considering applicants.

B. Two general classifications of applicants will be considered in the following order and priority:

  1. Students enrolled in seminary to complete basic seminary degree (M.Div., M.Re., M.Cm., etc.);
  2. Students pursuing graduate work beyond seminary requiring a seminary degree or its equivalent; Students involved in post‑college specialized training for work in fields of evangelism, missions, or church ministries; Undergraduate college students. In addition to meeting the guidelines under I. A. above, undergraduate college students will be required to meet the following additional guidelines:

a. Be active in the ministry of Calvary Baptist Church.
b. Share with the church in a public worship service their desire and intention of entering vocational Christian service.
c. Maintain a "C" or better average at an accredited college.
d. During summers and breaks from school, gives evidence of deep Christian commitment and involvement.
e. Be interviewed annually by the committee to renew the scholarship. Money available for College Students entering Vocational Christian Service is based upon the availability of funds after meeting the needs of students who are already enrolled at the seminary level.

C. Procedures for Requests

  1. Each applicant shall submit a written application on a form supplied by the Committee for each semester or session of school.
  2. Each initial applicant shall be interviewed personally by this Committee. No less than three members of the Committee may conduct this interview.
  3. Following the interview, unanimous consent of Committee members present for the interview shall constitute final approval of the application.
  4. The school and student shall be notified of the scholarship grant.
  5. To satisfy the Committee of the student's satisfactory progress, the student shall be requested to furnish his grades from the previous term.
  6. Scholarships are awarded on a semester or session basis.
  7. The Committee reserves the right to withdraw the unused portion of any scholarship grant upon dismissal or withdrawal from the designated school or in the event of any significant change in moral, academic, or spiritual commitment.
  8. Guidelines and procedures may be amended upon recommendation of the Committee and approval by the Church.
